Blogroll: On A Cleaner Note

It’s such a relief to know that I am done cleaning my blogroll.  It’s not an easy peasy lemon squeezy task to go through an entire list of blogs just to see who’s linking back to my blog and not.

badgeThere was this time when I received so many exchange link requests.  That was maybe, a couple of years ago.  Trying to be as friendly as possible, I accepted almost every request for as long as they [other bloggers] would be willing to keep their end of the bargain. Most kept my blog’s link in their blogrolls alive which was such a delight to know.

The exchange link requests kept coming until eight or six months ago when I would only get two or three per month and at times, none at all.  The decrease in number of inquiries did not come as a surprise.  I knew it would take place.

Irregular Shoes with Irregular Styles by Irregular Choice

Although I have been living in Europe for four years now, it is my first time to hear about the Irregular Choice shoe brand and online shop.  I am quite unsure how I’ve gotten to their page but somehow, I’ve stumbled upon it a couple of days ago, bookmarked it and will be sharing with you on this very post a few designs that have caught my curiosity.  So, here we go! Buckle up for the irregular e-window-shopping ride!

Isn't She Pretty?

Unfortunately, my thumbs lack the extraordinary power to make plants grow well.  *sigh*  I rarely buy pots of plants because I am aware that they usually don’t last for awhile and that really puts an ugly frown on my face.

A month ago, I thought that it would be a nice idea to bring my indoor plants out in the balcony so they could catch some sun and breathe in fresh air.  It was sunny during the day but without really realizing, my plants were not that strong to stand the chilly spring nights.   I did go out every morning to water them.  I noticed that the leaves were starting to discolor but did not mind it at all.  I thought that the leaves were just old and that it was time for them to hit the ground.  I was wrong.  I let another week pass before I finally decided to bring them back in --- the ones that were still alive, or well… almost half dead.  Three did not make it.  I was able to save eight though – five which I bought myself and three which were gifts from Ate Mina sometime in fall of 2010.  Still lucky, ‘eh?  *tsk tsk*

New York Same-Sex Marriage Bill - Passed

Yes. The post’s title says it all.  New York now belongs to the list of states where same-sex marriage is allowed and recognized.  We learned about this through the local news on telly this morning.

The bill was signed by Governor Andrew Cuomo yesterday, 24 June 2011, and would take effect on July 24, thirty days after the law was passed.  While many gay couples were celebrating the good news, many were disappointed.

Same-sex marriage has been a burning battle for decades.  Gay rights advocates continue to fight for the law of the same-sex couples to get married in many states.  On the other hand, anti-gay-marriage activists hope for the lawmakers to reject the bill.

One Lovely Saturday With Lovely Friends

There are only five of us from the Philippines who are currently living here in our town and so far I’ve only met two of them, Sherlyn and Mercy.  Mina who lives in another area drops by once in awhile to be with us.  It’s such a wonderful feeling to be able to get together with these wonderful people.

11 June 2011 – I finally got the chance to meet up with my Pinay friends!  The heavens were generous to us the whole day.  It was part sunny, part cloudy --- perfect for a Saturday stroll.

The day before, we decided to meet up at ten in the morning inside a second hand shop near the downtown district.  Aside from Mercy who was in time, Mina, Sherlyn and I arrived almost an hour later.  The next sixty minutes or so were spent inside the second hand store.  We went out with nothing and agreed to take a walk to our next destination, the supermarket.

Along the way, we spent a few minutes taking photos together.

Dr. Martens Boots: Colors And Fun!

Sometime in the 1940s, Klaus Märtens, a doctor in the German army during the second World War realized that his pair of standard-issue army boots were causing discomfort on his hurt heel so during his recovery period, he came up with the idea of improving the boots.  To make it comfortable, he used soft leather and applied air-cushioned soles which was then trademarked as AirWair years later.

Thanks to Dr. Klaus Märtens.  His experiment has not only introduced feet-friendly boots as the army-inspired footwear has now become a sense of fashion.  Some years back, colors has been added to Dr. Martens or Doc Martens or as I fondly refer to it as DMs boots to sprinkle some fun!

Here are five of my favorite DMs 8 Eyelet Boots in different hues:

The Most Talked About Marriage Proposal And Wedding on Fox TV’s Mobbed

I just got home from grocery shopping.  The sun was shining proud at 18°C --- hot but cold.  The weather was quite confusing but well, I’d rather prefer that than getting hours of rain.  I fixed myself a good cup of hot cappuccino, logged into my FaceBook account and ta-da! --- Bebe posted an interesting YouTube video on my wall.

Eager as always, I started watching it!  You should too, right?

So before I go on, here’s the video!  Enjoy!

In case you’re curious, this flash mob marriage proposal which is followed right away by the wedding is the premiere episode [aired on March 31] of the new reality show on FOX TV called Mobbed.  The show’s host is no other than the famous comedian Howie Mandel.

Hair Care: Trimming Away Those Bad Hair Days

After months of harsh, cold and dry winter plus this year’s chilly weeks of spring, my hair has turned out to be a perfect example of dull, unmanageable and lifeless hair.  I long for the day when my hair is TERAXCREMA200-2Tback to being shiny and silky.

My mission begins by searching for the best hair conditioner to put life back into my hair.  I’ve read about the Terax Crema Ultra Daily Hydrating Conditioner online and have read a few good reviews about it so I might check that one more later.  Have you tried it?  If it’s done your hair signs of miracles, please do leave me a buzz.  [Price per 200mL bottle is now down to $20.99 from $24.99]

Under My Umbrella (Ella ella eh eh eh)

It’s been raining on and off for the past days.  According to the weather forecast, it might continuously rain everyday for a few more 24-hour cycles and ughhh… that’s no fun at all.  So much for those warm sunny days, eh?

It rained the whole day today so instead of taking a walk downtown for some shopping [maybe], I ended up running to the grocery store located 20-25 meters away from the flat.  It wasn’t that bad though as I got a handful of ingredients for the sweet and sour pork recipe for dinner.  T’was my first time cooking the said dish and yay! --- I cooked it like a pro!  Yum yum with rice!  Thanks to the rain for that!

Blogger: Blogger Mobile Templates–Very Mobile Friendly

Google develops Blogger constantly.  Lately, they’ve released the Google Plus One button, a set of web fonts and the Mobile Templates.  The Mobile Templates feature has been released to a number of Blogger blogs months ago and in my case, I’ve stumbled upon it just this morning after logging in to my Blogger Dashboard.  Blogger Buzz announces that it’s already available to all Blogger blogs since yesterday, 08 June 2011.

A Private Car Service For A Better New York Experience

newyork
I was listening to Alicia Keys singing New York minus Jay-Z on YouTube when the thought hit me --- at least once in my life, I should be able to spend a week or two with my dear Bebe in The Big Apple.  The song did make me want to fly to New York and live a life in the concrete jungle where dreams are made of.

For first time visitors, I anticipate that getting around New York isn’t that easy peasy.  It is certainly wiser to look for a reliable and affordable New York car service to make trips cozy and the ride enjoyable.  If given the chance, I want to travel in a limousine for a short while around the streets of New York just for the experience.  For the rest of the trip, a sedan with a trustworthy driver is just perfect.  A friend has once told me that renting a private car and getting a cab are almost of the same price so I’ll definitely go for renting a car with a private driver who’ll take me safely to my dream tourist spots in New York --- The Empire State Building, Ripley’s Believe It Or Not Museum and the Statue of Liberty.  Can hardly wait to visit these amazing places!

How about you?  Have you been to New York?  If you have, have you rented a private car?  Is the experience better than paying for a cab?

Have a great day everyone!

Jewelry: HIPpity HOPpity Whooo!

I just arrived from my afternoon stroll, just in time to pop in the next batch of laundry.  The sky was part gloomy, part sunny but the weather's hot --- still indecisive as it was this morning.

I was at KappAhl  and a few other boutiques but did not bother to stay for long.  The shops were a bit chaotic as it was a busy day replacing spring items with summer colors and trends.  I spotted a few interesting hip hop jewelry with red labels on but decided to take a better look at them some other day.

By the way, I checked for charming but not so flashy hip hop pendants online awhile ago and found these:
RAINBOW NICKI MINAJ STYLE BARBIE DIAMOND CZ HIP HOP PENDANT
I might be 32, but I still love Barbie!

Original price: $115.99

Now: $42.99

At 22…

… degrees Celsius [yes, I am talking ‘bout the weather, not my age, obviously *wink*], my instinct tells me to go out and get some fresh air and ah-huh, that’s something I’ll probably be doing in a few hours.  Gotta get myself breakfast first, sort the laundry out and solve a couple of sudoku puzzles to jump start my brain’s central core.  After that, we’ll see if the weather’s still calm and sunny.  In this part of the world, the weather can be compared to a woman changing her mind --- it happens often in an accelerated speed.  You’ll never know what to expect.  Proof?

Earlier, here was what iGoogle told me:weather

I gave it two to three minutes and … ta-da!weather2

June 06 is Sweden’s National Day and I am thinking of taking a walk downtown later today.  It’s just two o’clock in the afternnoon and as they say, “The day’s still young!

Okey then, I might as well start preparing myself for the afternoon walk.  Later friends!

Cruising Back in Time: My Favorite Filipino Commercials of All Time

Commercials come and go.  Many get popular for a short time while a few leave footprints entrenched in the sand.  Below are my seven favorite Filipino commercials of all time… ads that I’ll never get tired of watching, ads that never fail to wow me over and over again…

1.] The Coke ad featuring Lilet and the United Colors of Benetton Kids singing the tagalog version of I Am The Future Of The World.  This ad was released around the 80’s… 1985 or 1986 maybe?

A Romantic And Funny Wedding Vow

I was YouTube-ing minutes ago as one link led to another… brought me to a very romantic and really funny wedding vow.  Here are a few words of the bride regarding the video:

funnyweddingMy husband's surprise wedding vows to me. Well, technically these aren't vows, but I'm not sure what else to call this. He wrote this the night before/morning of the wedding. I'm a little nervous because I have no idea what he is going to say, and I'm somewhat uncomfortable being the center of attention.

This was my favorite part of the entire day :)

For those who are asking, at the time of the wedding, the bride was 27 yrs old and the groom was 30 yrs old.”

Mix&Match #17–My Shadow And I

As always, you wouldn’t spot anything complicated about this look.  Mix and Match Moments’ entry number 17 was taken a few weeks back and was all about me and my best friend for all times – my shadow.

This look is perfect for spring.  With a light trench coat on, it’s good to go and during summer time, just let it be!

I haven’t bothered to put on some make up.  Powder and lip gloss are enough to seal the deal.  My hair bun is a total mess and that’s how I want it sometimes.
