Staying In Jagna Lodge, Bohol, Philippines
If you are looking for a serene place to stay in Jagna, Bohol (Philippines), I suggest you check Jagna Lodge which is situated only 10 minutes by tricycle (the town's means of public transportation) from the town proper.
My boyfriend and I have stayed there for a week (November 2006) and rented the house they have for only Php10,000 (about USD200). The house is huge and can accommodate a family or a group gathering. It has a very spacious living room, two big bedrooms, one small bedroom, a big kitchen and dining area. There's also a terrace in front of the house where you and your partner/loved ones/friends can unwind and relax especially during the night.
The living room is complete with sofa, table, tv (with cable channels) and a DVD player. Internet connection is available upon request but you have to have your own laptop with you.
Every bedroom has two beds complete with all the necessary bedding items. There's no air condition available. Each room is equipped with ceiling fans though and really huge windows. You can ask for an extra electric fan if you feel like you are not contented with the ceiling fan provided. Each bedroom has its own toilet and shower room. Towels are also available for you at no extra cost.
The kitchen is complete with refrigerator, double burner stoves, coffee maker, toaster, all the necessary cooking utensils and a purified water dispenser (purified water is free just let the caretaker know if you already need it to be refilled). There is another toilet and shower room in the kitchen area. The dining table is enough to sit 8 to 10 people.
The owners will hire a "labandera" (Filipino term which refers to a person hired to do your laundry) if you want or you can just wash your own clothes.
One great thing I enjoy is that the house is located on top of a cliff overlooking the clear blue waters of the Bohol Sea. When swimming, you don't have to go too far to be greeted with the very lovely clown fish which comes in groups. The caves are also lovely and the sand is grayish white all over. The owner and the caretaker only live in another building right next to the house. So in cases of emergency or further requests, you can easily get hold of them.
If you want to have a one day tour in Bohol, you can make reservations with the owners and they'll fix everything for you. When we were there, the entire tour/day cost Php4,000 (about USD85).

The people are also very friendly. One morning, I decided to go to the market to buy some fresh fruits and meat for consumption but didn't know how to get there. I just went out on the road and asked the locals for directions.
The only thing my boyfriend didn't like is that the roosters will keep on waking you up as early as 4:30 in the morning and that's something even the owners can't fix for you. So, if you want to stay there, be sure that you can survive the early morning alarm clock of nature.
All in all, the place is great and I highly recommend it to people who want to relax, enjoy the scenery, the beach and the quietness of the town.
