Maxi's Hamburger Cake

I've made this personalized cake for Anders, Mama Lena's fiancé. Hamburger is one of his favorite food and that's where I've gotten the idea from.

From past experiences, I've learned that many do not really like the taste of fondant so for this cake, it has been a decision to make the cake fondant-free. I've done a lot of thinking, figuring out how to properly decorate the cake and make it look like a hamburger without using fondant at all. At first, I've thought of using modelling chocolate but wait... that contains sugar paste and it tastes not that appealing, too. Then it's suddenly popped up in mind!!! "Why not use melted white chocolate? That might work, right?"

Compared to using fondant or sugar paste, molding and shaping melted white chocolate is rather more complicated especially in this time of the year when it's cold. I've raced against time just to get the shape I want before the chocolate hardens. I've failed a number of times. It's a good thing that I can just re-melt and reshape the chocolate over and over again until I get the result I want.

Without further ado, here's my very first attempt of a hamburger cake:
... and here's the reaction we've received from the celebrant:
Anders first said, "Oh no. I am sooo full. No hamburger please. Where's the cake? I want to taste my cake, please." It has taken quite long before he understands that the cake is the hamburger. That moment has been fun for all of us.

Here are the major details of this hamburger cake:

Top bun: Yellow cake covered with a mixture of white and dark chocolate which I used to coat the cake topped with sesame seeds made of white choc'.

Lower bun: Yellow cake also covered with the white-dark choc' mixture.

Meat patty: Made of chilled dark chocolate ganache

The lettuce: Made of white chocolate which I colored green.

The cheese: Made of white chocolate, colored it with yellow.

The mayonnaise-ketchup dressing: Made of vanilla flavoured whipped cream, colored it with red.

The cake looks awesome and tastes really delicious. Not bad for my very first hamburger cake, 'eh?

    OMG ... Maxi, you're creation is not only absolutely brilliant, it's a wonderful gift for your friend that he will always remember. Being one who LOVES a good burger, this post may have inspired today's lunch.
