Mikey Bustos' Filipino Accent Tutorial Video

by - Wednesday, March 02, 2011

If you have been to the Philippines at least once in your life or know a Pinoy in your neighborhood, then you've probably noticed how English is spoken the Filipino way. In my post You Are A Filipino If (Ip)... which I've written in August of 2009, this is one of those "ifs":
you love pronouncing EP (F) or FI (P) and Bi (V) or Vi (B) and vice versa.
Example1: I lab the pud so much. Pantastik!
Example2: Vaket vah, hah?
Example3: I am a Pilifino!
Example4: Do you hab a Peysbook account? Can we bi prends?
Example5: Pipty Payb Fesos
... and while checking my Facebook News Feed, I've chanced upon a Facebook/Blogger friend's post/video Pinoy English [Thanks Ane for sharing]. I've went through the video three times already and can't stop myself from smiling and laughing every now and then. Anyway, here's the vid':

For those of you who do not have any idea on who this Michael John Yadan Tumanguil Pestano Bustos is... whew! Good gracious! ... or simply Mikey Bustos is a Filipino-Canadian singer who lives in Toronto. He's full-blooded Pinoy. Born on the 23rd of June 1981 in Canada to parents Cristina and Jerry, Mikey has won 7th runner-up in the finals of Canadian Idol Season 1 [August 2003]. Here's Mikey's "Hello" audition:

Just another reason to say, "I'm proud to be Pinoy" ... and "Yes! I hab a panny accent and I tink dat's kul!"

  16. I also saw this video on another blog and it's really funny....actually I've posted a similar topic about this before ---the Filipinos' spoken English. The "he" and "she" confusion, the "f" sound turned into "p" and the inability of Filipinos of articulating the "th" sound. I used to have a hard time articulating the "th" sound in brother, mother, with, etc.....my husband used to tease me and wondered why I speak the "th" as "d" sound....then he corrected me and taught me how to say it properly ---saying the "th " sound with the upper palate and teeth close to the tongue, while the tongue pushes at the back of the lower  front teeth. So now, I can say the "th" sound properly.
    Thanks for sharing this video.

  17. Hello Bingkee!  As always, it's a pleasure to see your comments.

I, too posted a few things about common Pinoy facts.  There are times when I deliberately mix "Fi" and "Ip" for a bit of fun.  I believe I am miss spending the Philippines so much.  I am just glad that the Filipino blood still flows strongly in my blood..

    You are always welcome. Hugs!
