I’m still at the moment here at Mamma Lena’s apartment enjoying the night of what Swedish people call “kräftskiva” --- Crayfish Party. I have lived here in Sweden since June of 2007 and have never tried this delicacy. I am not that enthusiastic when it comes to eating members of the crustacean family. I guess I have issues attacking their heavy shells before I get to enjoy their meat. Yes… just lazy. However, tonight, I’ve pushed my laziness aside and tried crayfish. Good for me! Crabs, lobsters – I rarely have them. Shrimps and krill – they’re fine as they have softer coverings. As for barnacles, I’ve never tried them but will definitely do. According to Gordon Ramsey in one of his tv shows, barnacles cost a fortune and honestly, that fact scares me. Awww!
A beautiful tray of crayfish at its best
"A crayfish party is a traditional summertime eating and drinking celebration in the Nordic countries. The tradition originated in Sweden, where a crayfish party is called a kräftskiva. The tradition has also spread to Finland via the Swedish-speaking population of that country." ~~~ Wikipedia.org
Two trays of delicious taco pies
I had a glass of soda, a huge slice of taco pie, some chips on the side and five crayfish. The taco pie tasted heavenly and the crayfish? They’re yum yum! Luckily, crayfish crusts are not as compact compared to lobsters and crabs. Madde, my sister-in-law spent a few seconds teaching me how to crack open the shell [Yes. It was a crash course]. I did face a light battle but it wasn’t that terrifying to upset my appetite. I might actually snatch a few pieces later for snacks. *wink*
Crayfish fun!

I have no idea what time the party’s going to end tonight. One thing’s for sure though --- because it started right, it will end up just perfect!
Have a fun-filled weekend everyone!
