What do you think about when you picture New York? I imagine a bustling, vibrant city full of opportunities and excitement. And most of all, the local ladies strutting their way down the sidewalks in classically cool pieces. Black skirts, tall ankle boots, relaxed hair, oversized sunglasses and more...
Although we don’t live in the Big Apple, that doesn’t have to mean we can’t channel our inner fashionista! Here is a guide to some key trends in New York this year [courtesy of New York Fashion Week], and how to recreate similar looks for less:
Although we don’t live in the Big Apple, that doesn’t have to mean we can’t channel our inner fashionista! Here is a guide to some key trends in New York this year [courtesy of New York Fashion Week], and how to recreate similar looks for less:
● Collars
Peter Pan and mandarin collars are a pretty alternative to the usual scooped or V-shaped necklines for spring and summer dresses. They can also be dressed down for daytime or up for evenings with heels, long earrings and a low bun - which means you get more bang for your buck. Metal-tipped collars are appropriate for work and play too - simply pair them with some skinny jeans, a blazer and a messy topknot. The key is to find one that can a) be worn in a variety of different ways and b) complement other items in your wardrobe.
● Mini florals
Put away the large florals for some other time - this year, it’s all about floral prints that are whimsical and delicate. Wear these on light, airy sundresses, teamed with a pair of sunglasses and a comfy cardigan. They also look lovely on loose summer shirts and scarves. Greats finds in stores can sometimes be priced a little more than you’re willing to pay for - so for more options, look for similar items on online shopping websites [http://www.ezibuy.co.nz/]. Another bonus - no more fighting for spots in the changing room!

● Brocade
Because of its richness and opulence, it’s destined to take centre stage. A gold brocade clutch or belt can do wonders for lifting and brightening a simple, inexpensive outfit. A white shirt with a brocade skirt also looks great for semi-formal occasions - and if you want to go all out, a brocade dress will definitely make you stand out at a dinner party!
On a final note, confidence is always in fashion - so whatever it is you’re wearing, make sure you wear it with a big smile and your head held high.
