Nurses, Fashion Scrubs and Perhaps a Quality Nurse Drama on Telly

by - Tuesday, January 08, 2013

I was still up until 5 o’clock this morning and while trying to put myself to sleep, I turned on the telly and there it was, the first season of Grey’s Anatomy.  Although that the show has hit a remarkable 7.3 star rating out of the possible 10 on IMDb and with 9 seasons [and counting, possibly], I have never really watched any episode of it from start to finish until this morning.  Judging from that episode, I have to admit that I might be missing something good on telly since 2005.  On the other hand, with loads and loads of tv shows about doctors, sometimes I think I’ve had enough.  There’s Scrubs, House, General Hospital and Doogie Howser, M.D. only to mention a few.

That being said, I just noticed that most medical/hospital based dramas seem to brush off the roles of nurses in the hospital.  Or am I just being so sensitive?  I mean, I am not a nurse myself but I do have a long list of friends who are into the nursing profession.  Some are associate degree RNs, some are BSN grads who are now working in different areas of the world while a handful have master’s degrees in nursing who are equipped with the intelligence and prowess required for advanced nursing roles [as professors, nurse administrators – for example; http://www.gonzagaonline.com/online-masters-nursing-degree.asp].

It’s just that with so many nurses these days, I am so curious about their many different duties and how they cope up with all the stress and demands surrounding them.  I believe that it is cool to see nurses in action on telly at least once a week instead of just functioning as “furniture” in medical drama series these days.
Speaking of which, I have noticed the current trending fashion scrubs.  From dull white tops and pants to pretty, neat, well styled nursing scrubs.  I might not be a fashion expert but to be frank, these well color and print coordinated scrubs bear happy feeling compared to the so-stiff-all-white uniform of the past.
Really pretty scrubs:

How about you?  Are you a nurse by profession or perhaps have relatives and friends who are nurses?  Wouldn’t you like to have a quality tv show with nurses as main characters?
