How To Avoid Running Mascara And Other Ways To Look Good At The Pool

by - Thursday, May 23, 2013

With summertime upon us, it's time to break out the bikinis, margaritas, and flip flops. Can we all agree that summer is pretty much the best season ever? After you get over the initial excitement of it being the season of socially acceptable outdoor drinking, you start to realize summer can be kind of daunting. For instance, your crush might have asked you to go swimming with him. First, you're excited. Now, you're freaking out because you just realized how pale you are. Don't stress. I have a few ways you can look great by the pool without trying too terribly hard.

 Waterproof mascara.

It's kind of the worst thing ever when you put on mascara only to have it ruined by the water. But you don't want to be lame and not swim. So what's the solution? Waterproof mascara. It might take a few tries to see which one works best for you, but the good news is there are a ton of options! Waterproof mascara usually goes on a bit thicker so you can also trick people into thinking you have eyeliner on as well. Just push the wand up against your top lid to make your eyes pop in the pool!

Tinted sunscreen.

Just because you are super pale doesn't mean you have to live with it. If you are lame like me, you are probably always putting on sunscreen. Hello, I don't want skin cancer. So what I do is use a tinted sunscreen on my body. Then, I find a lightweight tinted moisturizer with sunscreen in it for my face. This way you have a nice, natural summer glow without risking a terrible sunburn after your day of fun in the sun.

I have super short hair. Not like boy short, but fairly short. So when it gets wet, it does nothing but make me look like I have a tiny wet mop on top of my head. To salvage my appearance, I use a lot of headbands. I particularly like the ones that hold your hair firmly in place, particularly the ones that you can wrap around your head. Don't let unattractive wet hair keep you from having fun with your friends in the pool! And while you're in the pool, don't worry about your hair-do looking silly. Everyone else's hair looks just as bad. Except boys. They're lucky like that.

Big sunglasses.

If you refuse to wear waterproof mascara or you just don't think you can pull off the no-makeup look (which I'm sure you can), grab a pair of big sunglasses! Aviators are always a great option. They cover up your eyes and about half of your face. They also shield the sun from burning too much of your skin. Be sure you have sunscreen on along with that pair of sunglasses, though. Otherwise you will be rocking the raccoon look for a few weeks.

A pedicure is a must for summer. Don't show off those cracked feet and long toenails with pride. Nobody thinks that's cute. Get a pedicure. Yes, it tickles. Yes, it's a tad expensive. But you deserve to be pampered every once in a while. Go get your nails did, girls!

Find a bikini that fits your body type.

Every body is different. Even the skinniest of girls can look bad if she picks the wrong bikini. Certain suits highlight certain features so it's important to figure out what your best features are and how to accent them. Choosing the right bikini is an important decision so don't do it online. Go to the store, try stuff on, get a second opinion, and make sure you absolutely love it before you buy it!
