Fun Finishing Touches For Your Wedding Reception

by - Tuesday, October 29, 2013

When you’re planning your wedding, there’s always a huge amount of pressure to host a day that will exceed your guests’ expectations. Whilst the venue, the dress and the food are probably at the top of your list of priorities, once all that’s sorted, the finishing touches can be the most stressful part of the planning process. To give you a helping hand, here are a few unusual ideas to inject a little bit of fun into your wedding reception.

Hashtag Your Wedding

If you think your guests are likely to use Instagram to upload and edit their photos from the day, create a hashtag for them to use. That way, when the day is over you’ll be able to scroll through everybody’s photos of your wedding, almost like having an instant, digital photo album to look at whilst you’re waiting for the proper photographs. Write the hashtag on chalk boards and position them in the centre of each table to encourage your guests to use it.

Tarot Reading

To add an extra element of fun to the reception, you could hire a tarot card reader for your guests from somewhere like www.kooma.co.uk. When they’ve had enough of dancing or the night is starting to die down, it provides a novelty form of entertainment that’s sure to get your guests mingling and chatting with one another.

Snap Happy

Another way to encourage your guests to mingle amongst themselves is to provide disposable cameras on each table. You could even provide props like masks and stick-on moustaches that any younger guests are bound to love. At the end of the night you can collect the cameras and have the photographs developed before creating an alternative wedding album to go alongside your professional one.

Ice Cream Van

If you’re having an outdoor reception, hiring a pre-paid vintage style ice cream van is a fun, novelty idea for making your day a little more unusual. If you wanted to go one step further, you could go for a lemonade stand or a candyfloss machine too. Younger guests will love the idea, and everybody will be glad to have refreshments on the go throughout the day, especially if it’s warm and sunny.

There are hundreds of different ways you can make your special day unique, and these ideas are merely the tip of the iceberg. For more inspiration and unusual ideas, try browsing the wedding board on Pinterest.
