The Great Debate: Eyeglasses vs. Contacts

by - Sunday, January 19, 2014

For many people who develop problems with their vision, they may go through a short period where they have to decide whether they want eyeglasses, contacts, or both. It mainly comes down to personal preference and the situation they are in. When you are trying to decide which route to take, be sure to consider comfort, lifestyle, budget, convenience, and aesthetics. These things can help you decide whether you should get reading glasses for men, or go for the contacts. Although there are definitely some advantages to contacts, ultimately you may find that eyeglasses will be much more convenient and affordable for your budget.

6 Reasons Why Eyeglasses are Better Than Contacts

1. Minimum cleaning. The great thing about glasses is that they do not require much cleaning or maintenance. You may have to clean off a smudge here and there but overall, if you are careful they will stay fairly clean.
2. No direct contact with eyes. Putting contacts in your eyes can be a pain. You may have a hard time putting them in your eyes in the first place and on top of that, you may end up poking yourself several times before you can actually get them into the proper place. Eyeglasses, on the other hand, are very easy to slip on whenever you need them. They can also reduce the likelihood of getting an eye infection.
3. Much cheaper. Since eyeglasses do not need to be replaced very often, they are a much cheaper option. With contacts, you will need to buy more every time you run out. This could cost you a great deal of money over time. Also, if you ever need to change your prescription, most of the time you can keep the frames that you have and just get new lenses. If you had contacts, you would have to order a whole new prescription set and may have to throw out some contacts you already have.
4. Add some personality. Contacts are clear and don’t add any color or character to your face. However, eyeglasses can add some color to your face and you have the option of matching your eyewear to your outfit. They can be a great accessory for your fashionable tastes.
5. Protect your eyes. If you have sensitive eyes or they are dry a lot, contact lenses can make this condition worse. With eyeglasses, you will not have to worry about them irritating your eyes further. Eyewear can also protect your eyes to some degree from the environment such as dust, wind, and other debris.
6. Make getting ready for bed or taking a nap easier. If you want to catch a snooze during work or you are getting ready for bed after a long day, the last thing you want is for your contacts to bother you or get in the way of getting to bed sooner. Falling asleep with contacts in can make your eyes dry and irritated when you wake up. With eyeglasses, you can take them off anytime and fall right to sleep without worrying about your eyes.

Before you decide whether you want eyeglasses or contacts, consider these six factors. They may help you choose the right path for you and your eyewear needs.
